United Guild Service

The annual United Guild Service at St Paul’s Cathedral is one of the major ‘must dos’ for Livery Companies, and the Water Conservators put up a good show as usual, with our attendees overflowing our allocation of seats, and several more in guest seats under the Dome. Precedence of Livery Companies is all important, and as 102nd in the sequence, we were seated near the back, but we nevertheless enjoyed the parade of the Great Twelve and other City dignitaries, some apparently having escaped from a Gilbert and Sullivan production; spurs, wigs, knee-breeches and Napoleonic headwear featured strongly. The music from the St Paul’s choir was, as ever, absolutely splendid, as was a thoughtful sermon.
