The Trustees of the Company’s charity, The Water Conservation Trust CIO*, met on 6 May 2025 to review progress on education projects and to consider what should be included in the five-year plan 2025-2030. Trustees agreed that the priority should be on education, with a review of the University Bursary Programme in the light of reduced UK postgraduate student recruitment, and an expansion of the Schools Programme. It will enable more schoolchildren to access Trust supported events, such as the Spitalfields City Farm and the Steam Explorers STEM Club at the London Museum of Water and Steam.
Charitable giving is the second Pillar (after the ‘Trade’) of all Livery Companies. Around 40% of the members of the Company contribute to the Trust. Trustees are working to increase the number of donors, increase the commitment of Company Members and enable the Trust to do more.
Members interested in the Trust’s work, or willing to get involved should contact Trustees: Martin Bigg (martin2.bigg@uwe.ac.uk) or Peter Hall (peterbhall@hotmail.com).
*CIO stands for Charitable Incorporated Organisation
