The Company is very pleased to welcome Duncan Anderson Margetts as the new Clerk of the Company. He is already familiar with the Company being a Freeman of the Company and is looking forward to becoming a Liveryman.

At the meeting of the FMGP in the Watermen’s and Lightermen’s Hall on 2 September he was introduced by the Master, Tom Flood. Our outgoing Clerk, Chris Millett, formally handed the role of Clerk over to Duncan as well as completing arrangements for all the boxes of files, printer, computer etc to be passed on. Hopefully Duncan has a lot of storage space!

Tom thanked Chris for his work as Clerk, as he stepped down from the role. We wish Chris well for the future.

Duncan has over 30 years’ experience as a Business Adviser, Business Growth & Strategy Specialist, and Lecturer, working with a diverse range of businesses and organisations across multiple sectors, particularly rural and financial.

He is closely connected to agriculture and the countryside, and passionate about the viability of businesses in the rural and land-based sectors, to which he brings his wide knowledge of fiscal and operational matters to bear. He has a keen interest in the environmental factors affecting the wider business community and, given the critical role of water, his interests and passions led him to become a Freeman with The Worshipful Company of Water Conservators in 2025 before being appointed Clerk in 2026.

Duncan lives in rural Cambridgeshire with his wife, Sue, their dogs, cats, sheep and chickens, where he is actively involved with local businesses and charitable organisations, many of which have significant interests in water and the environment.  In his spare time, he can be found in mountains or by the coast.
