We are pleased to welcome Alderman Robert Hughes-Penney and Deputy Keith Bottomley as the next Sheriffs of the City of London. They were elected at Guildhall’s Common Hall in a ceremony attended by a magnificent show of Livery Masters and Liverymen. The Water Conservators were represented by the Master Dylan Barker, Thames Warden Carolyn Roberts and Deputy Master Martin Bigg.
The new Sheriffs will take office on 26 September and hold the position for a year. To become the Lord Mayor you have to have been a Sheriff. They live at and have offices at the Central Criminal Court (Old Bailey). Their duties include supporting the Lord Mayor and serving at home and abroad as ambassadors for the UK-based financial and professional services industry, promoting the UK as a place to do business.
