Company members were treated to a very impressive Afternoon Tea in the very elegant 18th century Watermen’s Hall, the only original Georgian hall in the City of London. This very civilised event occurs about six times a year and is open to everyone to join.
We were offered a Champagne reception as we were briefed on the history of the Watermen and Lightermen (The former carry passengers while the latter carry goods across the Thames).
With the choice of teas, a selection of freshly made delicate classic sandwiches. (What do they do with the crusts?) Then, the dividing moment, warm homemade scones, do you put the clotted cream or jam on first?
Finally a trip or two to the cake table. Velvet, raspberry, lemon, carrot, chocolate and more, to achieve your five a day vegetable and fruit intake.  And a bonus, any remaining cake to take home.
Two and a half ours later we finally dispersed.
This was a great way to spend the afternoon in the good company of family and friends.
