Presentation of water to the Lord Mayor

The Master has presented the Lord Mayor, Alderman Michael Mainelli, with a jug of Thames Water, as a reminder of the value of water to the City of London.

On 14 July 1197, King Richard 1, in order to improve his liquidity, sold the Conservancy of the River Thames to the Corporation of London for the sum of 1500 marks.

Each year the Master, accompanied by the Wardens, of the Worshipful Company of Water Conservators, presents the Lord Mayor with a jug of Thames Water (drawn from a tap) to mark the occasion.
