LCAG Conference 2024: Planning for a Resilient Future

The Company was well represented at the Livery Climate Action Group (LCAG) Conference held at the Merchant Taylors’ Hall supported by The Worshipful Companies of the Mercers, Merchant Taylors and Haberdashers and The City of London Corporation and GLH.  Over 200 Livery representatives and other organisations were present to hear a full programme of talks and discussions.

Before the Conference formally started it was fascinating hearing from the young people at Hugh Myddelton School which is supported by the Water conservation Trust and especially Past Master Rob Casey who is also a school governor.  The enthusiasm and interest of the students was incredible.  Congratulations to the school and staff.

The Conference was opened by Alderman Alison Gowman who introduced the Keynote Speaker Alderman Professor Michael Mainelli, Lord Mayor of the City of London.  Water Conservator Court Member Allan Barton posed challenges to the Panels of distinguished professionals.  The first panel discussing Water was Thames Warden Prof. Carolyn Roberts, Tim Munday from the City of London, and Court Member Dr David Lloyd Owen.

Subsequent panels included Energy led by the Fuellers’ Company (Prof. Averil MacDonald, Ashutosh Shastri, Jon Clark), Biodiversity (Dr. Heather Barrett-Mold, Ben Bishop, Dr Cristina Banks-Leite) and Skills.

Walsall Academy students then presented their eco project as highlighted by the BBC.  We heard a challenging presentation from Prof. Thomas Waite OBE, UK Deputy Officer on health and climate change and Dr Emma Howard-Boyd shared the key points from The London Climate Resilience Review.
