To raise funds, the Water Conservation Trust CIO (the charity of the Worshipful Company of Water Conservators) organised a sponsored walk along the Oxford Canal and River Thames at Oxford.
Trustees, Company Members, friends and representatives of Thames Water joined Past Master Rob Casey for a guided walk starting and finishing outside Oxford Railway Station. It was around 5.25
miles and should have taken around 2.5 hours. It started as a most leisurely walk along the Oxford canal before we struck off, cross country, to join the River Thames. However, due to the recent very heavy rain, the fields were flooded with water (reinforcing the importance of flood plains) and the riverside path was nowhere to be seen, so we retraced our steps along the canal. The return seemed shorter as we headed to a late lunch (avoiding the Sunday lunch rush hour) at a suitable public house in Oxford City Centre after the walk.
We were very fortunate that it was good walking weather and we enjoyed good company discussing water and environmental issues over a hearty lunch and drink.
