The Master of the Water Conservators, Dylan Barker and the Master of the Watermen and Lightermen, Ted Manning, were presented with the Stela, a section of medieval wooden water pipe, by the Operations Director of the Royal Palace at Hampton Court. It was then taken safely by HM Bargemaster, on the Royal Shallop Jubilant, escorted by traditional Thames Watermens’ cutters, to the Governor of the Tower of London.
It reminded us of the importance of clean water to the history and growth of the City of London and the importance of the river Thames for transport and trade with the world.
