Supporting Wounded Veterans

The Company uses its formal Lunches to raise awareness and to collect for charities outside the regular giving pattern. At the recent Installation Court, the incoming Master, Professor Carolyn Roberts, agreed that donations should go to the charity Supporting Wounded Veterans. The collection raised £600.

Supporting Wounded Veterans, founded by Gilly Norton in 2012, aims to help ‘veterans break down the barriers that hinder them from achieving the life they so richly deserve. They have given their all for our country and need to know that help and support is on hand when they really need it’. The help given is real, practical and long-lasting and meets a wide range of needs. The charity makes sure the men and women they help are looked after for as long as they need.

Many veterans live in rural areas around the UK and its Rivers’ Forum was set up in an effort to offer opportunities for training and employment for veterans within the conservation and environment sector. Led partly by veterans, the Rivers’ Forum will unite leaders from government, industry, academia and charities to tackle the UK water pollution crisis and showcase the contribution that veterans can make. It is intended to foster collaboration and innovation in river conservation and water quality while developing veteran employment opportunities. A pilot project is focussed on the River Dart in Devon, and progress is of great interest to the Company and Trust.
