The Lord Mayor, Aldermen, Chapter and City of London Livery joined together for a Service of Remembrance and the Commemoration of the Fallen on Remembrance Sunday in St Paul’s Cathedral. We committed ourselves to work for reconciliation between the nations, that all people may together live in freedom, justice and peace. We prayed for all who continue to suffer the consequences of fighting and terror and remembered those whose lives have been given and taken away.
The Company was represented by the Fleet Warden and the Deputy Master, as the Master was indisposed. Many other Companies were also represented.
After the service we processed from the Cathedral to the war memorial in front of the Royal Exchange in the heart of the City. There representatives of the forces, uniformed and other organisations gathered with the livery representatives. The Lord Mayor led the laying of wreaths and the Master Fruiterer laid a wreath on behalf of the Livery Companies.
Afterwards we gathered outside the Mansion House for a march past by the armed services and other organisations.
It was a very powerful and unifying occasion.
