Member of the Company Dr Jonathan Fisher will present a review of 25 years practical experience with the EU Water Framework Dirctive (WFD)’s economic provisions which he prepared with a group of European water economists who had earlier developed the Wateco Guidance for economic analysis for implementing the WFD. He will explain the historical background and origins of the WFD and then describe its economic provisions. He will present key elements of the Group’s SWOT analysis of these economic provisions of the WFD with specific reference to experience in England. He will then present the Group’s recommendations for refining the WFD and way forward for water management policies and practices and how these could helpfully improve Defra’s water reforms currently being discussed for England.
